Asparagus & Gold
Evidence-Based Nutrition for
Optimum Sports Performance and Tactical Readiness
by Jenna A Stedman, MS, RD, LD
The disconnect between marketing and science is not a new challenge in nutrition and health. It can seem confusing to figure out what is fact and what is fiction. This is especially true in the sports and athletic world; the supplement industry and non-RDs have made sure of that.
What every health and nutrition practitioner will agree on is this: a plant predominate diet is the key to good health and performance. I am not talking about eating grass in a field, or even eating only plants, but decades of research has stated that the foods we need to eat every day are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. We can eat other foods of course, but the best performance comes from a balanced diet designed specifically for each athletes preferences and training needs.
Asparagus & Gold was created to be one of your sources for credible sports nutrition information from a Registered Dietitian and information based on the latest research.
The purpose of this site is to translate the science and provide information for you to make the best decisions for your athletic performance goals. Please make an appointment to speak with your local Registered Dietitian or with your primary care provider about your individual health needs.
Everything on this site is free for your nutrition education; it is my public service contribution. I created this site for other sports RDs, for RD2Bes, for athletes and for soldiers. Please take any fact sheet or meal plan template that may help you, and build on it if you would like. Share this with your teammates or coaches. Please feel free to send in any questions or requests you may have.
