Marketing and the media has told us for decades that when you eat soy or any soy products it will negatively impact our bodies natural hormones. Some say it will increase our estrogen levels. Some say that it will then decrease our testosterone levels. Thus making us weak and helpless.
Science has known soy to be somewhat of a super food. A complete protein source with none of the harmful effects that we find from animal protein sources. Soy contains a phytoestrogen, which does not interact with human or mammalian hormones. In fact research has actually found it to have great benefits such as reducing bone loss and reducing risk from some cancers.
"Soy consumption has also been shown to benefit our kidneys, which appear to handle plant protein very differently from animal protein. Within hours of eating meat, our kidneys rev up into hyperfiltration mode. But, an equivalent amount of plant protein causes virtually no noticeable stress on the kidneys. Eat some tuna, and within three hours, your kidney filtration rate can shoot up 36 percent. But eating the same amount of protein in the form of tofu doesn’t appear to place any additional strain on the kidneys."
Soybean products come in many forms. You can find edamame beans, tofu, tempeh, miso, soy sauce, and soy milks and ice creams is many grocery stores today.
Maybe throw some tofu in you stir-friday tomorrow!
(Of course, if you are allergic to soy then you should not consume it.)
